Mario Merola

Mario Merola ( born April 6, 1934 in Naples, † November 12, 2006 in Castellammare di Stabia ) was a Neapolitan singer and actor.

Life

Merola worked as a longshoreman in Naples until he participated in a singing course at the urging of his colleagues. Quite soon he had great success in the new job and became an icon of the Neapolitan song. He has published numerous records.

At the end of the 1970s he began his singing career in parallel with a reputation as an actor to build. He frequently appeared in films by director Alfonso Brescia on, mostly forensic -themed films and melodramas - almost exclusively with the Naples terms, usually just in the ( original ) title. Few of these films had performances outside Italy. Since the mid- 1980s, he focused again on the Neapolitan songs and performed in countless concerts, on stage and on television.

At the beginning of 2006 he had to retire due to health problems of his career. He died of a pulmonary edema.

Since 1964 he was married to Rosa Serrapaglia, with whom he had three children, of whom his son Francesco continues the tradition as a singer Neapolitan song good.
