Mario Varglien

Mario Varglien ( born December 26, 1905 in Fiume, Austria - Hungary, now Rijeka, Croatia; † August 11, 1978 ) was an Italian football player and coach, who played during his active career in defense.

His brother Giovanni was also a footballer, why Mario Varglien often appears as Varglien I in Statistics.

Career

In the club

Mario Varglien began his playing career in his home town of Fiume, after which he played for Pro Patria. In the summer of 1927, he transferred to Juventus, where he played until 1942. At Juve he was achievers in the legendary team of Quinquennio d' Oro, who won five Italian championships in a row under coach Carlo Carcano 1931-1935. A record that has still not broken. Overall, he completed 405 games in Dress by Juventus, scoring 17 goals.

Between 1952 and 1954 Mario Varglien worked as head coach at AS Roma. Previously, he had been trained, the U.S. Triestina Calcio Como and Pro Patria Calcio.

In the National Team

Mario Varglien was appointed coach Vittorio Pozzo, the Italian national squad for the World Cup in Italy in 1934 without having completed only one match. In the tournament itself, he did not play, and so became champion without ever having played for his national team.

His only international game, he completed on February 17, 1935 in a 2-1 against France.
