Marion Lorne

Marion Lorne MacDougall ( born August 12, 1883 in West Pittston, Pennsylvania, † May 9, 1968 in New York City ) was an American actress.

Life

Marion Lorne was born on August 12, 1883 in Pennsylvania, and began in 1905 on Broadway her career in show business. Her career as a film actress began in 1951, in the film Strangers on a train by Alfred Hitchcock. Lorne was married until his death in 1944 with playwright Walter Hackett.

After her film debut Marion Lorne sat her acting career mostly on television continues. She was seen in the early 1950s in the role of teacher Mrs. Gurney on the sitcom Mr. Peepers, and in the late 1950s in the role of Myrtle Banford in the NBC television series produced by Sally, on the side of Joan Caulfield. Both series earned her Emmy nominations. Another role had Lorne in The Garry Moore Show. In the latter TV show, she completed 1958-1961 several guest appearances.

However, when Marion Lorne's most well-known role of the lovable witch Aunt Clara applicable in the successful series Bewitched. Aunt Clara is terrible senile, and begin their magical powers to wane. For this role, Lorne, after many nominations for the first time won an Emmy Award.

On May 9, 1968 Marion Lorne died of a heart attack.
