Māris Bružiks

Māris Bružiks ( born August 25, 1962 in Pļaviņas, Latvian SSR ) is a former Latvian athlete who had specialized in the triple jump. Until the independence of Latvia in 1990, he represented the Soviet Union internationally. At the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008 he was a member of the coaching staff of the Latvian women's basketball team.

Career

Bružiks created in 1986 in Madrid European Indoor champion in the triple jump. In the same year he won in the open air at the European Athletics Championships in Stuttgart the silver medal behind the eventual world champion and Olympic champion Christo Markov from Bulgaria.

1987 Bružiks was. During the IAAF World Indoor Championships in Indianapolis and seventh at the Universiade in Zagreb third At the 1992 Olympic Games, now starting for Latvia, he finished tenth. He won at the IAAF World Indoor Championships in Toronto in 1993 the silver medal behind the Frenchman Pierre Camara and at the European Athletics Championships in Helsinki in 1994 the bronze medal behind Denis Kapustin from Russia and Serge Helan from France. The World Athletics Championships in Gothenburg in 1995, he finished in tenth place before in Stockholm ten years after his last title win European Indoor champion in 1996 again. At the World Athletics Championships 1997 in Athens, he could no longer qualify for the finals themselves.
