Māris Štrombergs

Māris Štrombergs ( born March 10, 1987 in Valmiera ) is a Latvian BMX cyclists.

Sports career

Štrombergs won the first gold medal, which was awarded in this sport for men at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. It was the second Olympic gold medal for Latvia after regaining independence. At the 2012 Summer Olympic Games Štrombergs stepped up to defend their title, which they ultimately succeeded. He is the first Olympic champion of Latvia, who won two gold medals.

Štrombergs was 2008 and 2010 world champion and 2008 and 2013 European champion.

Honors

Māris Štrombergs was honored with induction into the Hall of Fame of the European Cycling Union Union Européenne de Cyclisme.
