Marjorie Clark

Marjorie Clark ( born November 6, 1909 in Bulwer, KwaZulu -Natal, South Africa ) was a South African track and field athlete and Olympic medal winner.

Clark was the first South African athlete who won an Olympic medal. Until the Olympics 1932, she held the world record in the 80 - meter hurdles with a time of 11.8 seconds. In the British Empire Games in London in 1934, she won the gold medal in front of the Canadian Betty Taylor ( silver) and the Englishwoman Elsie Green ( bronze). Also, she won gold in the same event in the high jump with a height of 1.60 meters skipped before the two Canadians Eva Dawes (Silver) and Margaret Bell ( bronze).

In the Summer Olympics 1932 in Los Angeles, she won the bronze medal in the 80 - meter hurdles behind the two U.S. women Mildred "Babe" Didrikson ( gold) and Evelyne Hall ( Silver).

At the debut of the Olympic women's competitions in 1928 in Amsterdam Marjorie Clark finished with 1.48 m the 6th place in the high jump, 1932, she was fifth with 1.58 m.
