Marjorie Merryman

Marjorie Merryman ( born 1951 ) is an American composer and music educator.

A graduate of Brandeis University, studied composition with Seymour Shifrin, Martin Boykan, Betsy Jolas and Gail Kubik. From 1979 she taught at the School of Arts at Boston University, and later at Harvard University, MIT at the New England Conservatory and at Macalester College. Since 2007 she is member of the Department of Composition and Vice -President of the Manhattan School of Music. In 1996 she published a manual of music theory.

Merryman composed orchestral works and chamber music, vocal music and opera, and two oratorios. She received inter alia commissions of the New England Philharmonic Orchestra, the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, the Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra of the American Guild of Organists, the Pappoutsakis Foundation and the 20th Century Consort. She participated in the Meet the Composer program of the National Endowment for the Arts in part, was composer in residence at the New England Philharmonic Orchestra and the Billings Symphony Orchestra, was a board member of the New England Composers Orchestra, the Lily Boulanger Foundation and the Ensemble for New Music Alea III and awards include the Walter Hinrichsen Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters and the Lee Ettelson Award of WBZ Fund for Arts and Composers.
