Mark Lemon

Mark Lemon ( born November 30, 1809 in London, † May 23, 1870 in Crawley, West Sussex ) was an English journalist and founder of the magazine " Punch".

In addition to his journalistic work Lemon could also successfully succeed with their own works of fiction. More than 60 operetta libretti, comedies, melodramas and he was able to publish during his lifetime. Even Christmas stories, several novels and over a hundred songs were also part of his oeuvre.

In 1841 Lemon together with his colleague Henry Mayhew and Ebenezer Landells Xylographen satirical weekly "punch" and in July of the same year they were able to present the first edition to the public.

At the age of 60 years Mark Lemon died at home in his Vine Cottage in Crawley. His final resting place he found in the cemetery of St. Margaret in Ifield ( near Crawley ).

Lemon was a member of the Savage Club in London.
