Market Street Railway (nonprofit)

The Market Street Railway is a non-profit association (type 501 ( c) (3 ) ) in San Francisco with about 1,200 members, and has a collection of historic streetcars. They fitted the three remaining cable car lines ( in Cape gauge ) and the regular standard gauge tram line F Market & Wharves of San Francisco Municipal Railway ( " Muni " ) with vehicles, including cars from Italy, Canada, Mexico and many cities in the United States. The association also operates the San Francisco Railway Museum at Don Chee Way / Steuart Street, will be exhibited in the exhibits of the tramway operations of San Francisco, as well as souvenirs and books are sold to roads and railways in the Bay Area.

Name

The club was named after the Market Street Railway, the operation from 1860 transportation in San Francisco, until it was taken over by Muni in 1944.

On a total of four lines (only) vehicles are used, which have been restored by the Market Street Railway.

History

The club was founded in 1976 and restored old tramcars different origins. After the opening of the Market Street Subway, by 1980 the remaining tram lines of the city were passed (the last in November 1982), the Muni replaced the above-ground route through the bus line 8 tracks but were retained from 1983, addressed the club an annual tram service from the summer season, where the historic fleet was deployed on Market Street. Since 1985, the Muni F - line runs with vehicles of the association.

The depot of the paths is at Balboa Park, and since 1991 is achieved through the Church Street - before a roundabout way through the Ingleside - line ( line K).
