Marko Tajčević

Marko Tajcevic ( born January 29, 1900 in Osijek, † July 19, 1984 in Belgrade ) was a Yugoslavian composer.

He received his education in Zagreb at Fran Lhotka, Blagoje Bersa and Franjo Dugan, in Prague at Václav Stepan and in Vienna with Joseph Marx. He taught 1950-1966 as a professor of music theory and composition at the Music Academy in Belgrade.

His musical expression was strongly associated with the South Slavic folklore, in a freer, more modern style, he joined late Romantic harmony with the edge of folk sounds. Tajcevic worked for many years as a choral conductor, choral sound fascinated him, was one of the most sought-after lecturer in music theory and composition at the Belgrade Music Academy in the period after the Second World War.

Tajcevic was a master in the field of small musical forms. His main work was in the field of piano music the famous Suite Seven dances from the Balkans (1930 ), which was established by the Slovenian conductors Bogo Leskovic for Orchestra.

In addition, several song cycles emerged.
