Markscheider Art (Russian Маркшейдер Кунст ) is a Russian world music band from Saint Petersburg.

Band History

The band was founded in 1992. The unusual name comes from the German miners' language: " mine surveyor " means a surveyor in mining. Almost all the band members are former mining students. Their music style is very particular and to the Russian language is not comparable with other groups from the region, such as Auktyon or Leningrad. The reason for this is their Congolese ex- frontman Makangila Seraphim, who now mittourt only sporadically and mainly pursued solo projects. His influence had a horizon expanding and brought them close to dance music style of his home country, such as the Soukous and also reggae. There was also a brass and rhythm section over the years. They play a kind of Afro Salsa fusion of Latin, Salsa, Rumba, Afro Cuban and ska. Since 2001, the side project of the St. Petersburg Ska Jazz Review is to Spitfire.

The band toured frequently throughout Europe. On the CD compilation Russendisko hits two songs are represented by them. On the Soul Sampler Russians are Kokeiro with it. In Hamburg they were 2003, the top act of the Alternative Festival St. Petersburg, organized on the occasion of the 300th anniversary of her hometown. When the local official festivities they said down because the organizers wanted to pay them only a symbolic fee.
