Markus Rill

Markus Rill ( born March 20, 1970 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a German songwriter.

Life

Rill was born on 20 March 1970 in Frankfurt / Main. He grew up in Goldbach near Aschaffenburg on and was in his youth, multiple German Champion in wrestling and between 1987 and 1993 several German team champion with the AC Bavaria Goldbach. At the Julius -Maximilians -Universität Würzburg, he studied English and social studies.

During his studies he spent a year in Austin, Texas, where he dealt with the American music in the tradition of Bob Dylan, Townes Van Zandt and Guy Clark. He had first solo performances at open mic evenings

After returning to Germany Rill opened a concert of his idol, Townes Van Zandt and released his debut album Gunslinger's Tales ( 1997) self-published. After numerous appearances throughout Germany, among others, Hazeldine, Steve Wynn and John Wesley Harding, released in 1999 The Devil And The Open Road at Blue Rose. Followed in 2001 Nowhere Begins at Music Network. In 2004, scoring the first time in Nashville with U.S. musicians. The album "Hobo Dream " was produced by guitarist Duane Jarvis and appeared again on the Blue Rose. In the same year appeared in the self-published " The Hobo Companion ", a collection of live recordings, demos, radio recordings and covers. In May 2006, published Rose Blue "The Price Of Sin ", also recorded in Nashville. In January 2008, followed by another Nashville - work, "The Things That Count " on Blue Rose. In November 2008 Rill published with " Bag Of Tricks" a collection of cover versions of songs by Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, Chuck Berry and Elvis Presley. In March 2011 appeared "Wild Blue & True" at Blue Rose, 13 new songs recorded with his band The Troublemakers and produced by Rill and Tom Ripphahn. Since 2007 Rill counts regularly among the finalists in the International Songwriting Competition. Several of his songs reached the final round in the Americana and folk categories of competition with jury members such as Tom Waits, Jerry Lee Lewis, Bonnie Raitt and Ray Davies. As a songwriter Rill was involved in six songs on the album "River Of Time" ( 2011) by Hands On The Wheel.

In October 2012 Rill took in a duo with the Swedish singer & songwriter Annika Fehling in part on the first Acoustic Music Cruise, a musical cruise through the Mediterranean.

In February 2013 appeared "My Rocket Ship " by Markus Rill & The Troublemakers (consisting of Felix Leitner - guitar, Chris Reiss - Bass, Aggi Berger - drums and Jan Reinelt - keyboards) on Blue Rose. " No Depression " - the instance for Americana and alt.country from the U.S. - praised the album as " Markus Rill 's best work to date" and judge " Rill shows great depth as a songwriter, bandleader and producer ". The national and international reviews are unanimously positive. The song "The Late Great TvZ " Rill 's opened homage to the Texas songwriter Townes Van Zandt, for the Rill in November 1996, a concert, a few weeks before Van Zandt's death on 1 January 1997, stands out. In December 2013 published Markus Rill "Late Night Drive" self-published. Also for the introspective solo album, the reviews are unanimously positive.
