Marlee Matlin

Marlee Beth Matlin ( born August 24, 1965 in Morton Grove, Illinois ) is an American actress. The deaf actress was awarded best actress in a Lesser God Children of Oscar 1987.

Biography

Marlee Matlin is almost completely deaf since early childhood due to illness ( three- day fever ). They do not let yourself become discouraged and played even as a 7 -year-old Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz in a children's theater. For her film debut in Children of a Lesser God in 1987 she received a Golden Globe and an Oscar.

Between 1991 and 1993 worked Marlee Matlin in the crime series The Reasonable Doubts ( Reasonable Doubts ) as a prosecutor Tess Kaufmann. The series was broadcast over two seasons on German television at VOX. In 1993, Matlin the role of dancing thief Laurie Bey in Picket Fences - Tatort garden fence, initially only a brief cameo appearance in the second season of the series represented, but was expanded over the course of Season 3 for fixed role. In 2004, she played the lead role of Amanda in What the Bleep do we (k ) now!? . Matlin played in season five of the series Seinfeld in the episode 6 lip-reading a deaf judge line that starts with the protagonist. In the series My Name Is Earl Matlin plays in Season 2 Joy's lawyer.

Marlee Matlin is married to a police officer since 1993 and has four children. She has published in 2002 the children's book Deaf Child Crossing and is involved in charitable organizations, especially for the support of children with AIDS and for the American Red Cross.

Matlin is friends with Jennifer Beals since 1983. As Matlin was offered in the lesbian series The L Word the role of Jodi Lerner, she wanted to refuse at first, as they should play the new girlfriend of Beals character Bette Porter and shied away from intimate scenes with her friend. After a conversation with Beals she finally accepted the role.

In the episode The Blind Side of the tenth season of the American animated television series Family Guy, which first aired on January 15, 2012, Fox, Marlee Matlin also lent a deaf character ( "Stella" ) her voice.
