Marmaduke Duke

Marmaduke Duke is a rock project of the two Scots Simon Neil of Biffy Clyro and JP Reid of Sucioperro. The project of the two band heads is designed to last three albums and depicts the story of a crazy Dukes of the 16th century, told in small musical stories. It should thereby be the setting of a three-volume unpublished narrative that has given them a Portuguese friend.

Neil and Reid aka The Atmosphere and The Dragon are both from Ayrshire and are distantly related. Parallel to the establishment of their respective bands planned the two from 2003, the project, as a legal squabbles blocked her band work, and they had within a week the first album The Magnificent Duke written and completed by 2005. The work consists of three times six pieces, each alternately rocking punky, an acoustic- melodic and experimental and playful pieces, which is supposed to represent the mood swings of the Dukes. The album was released as a limited edition of 4000 copies.

Part two was just started it and finished writing just as fast and the two Scots already played 2005 Pieces from The Duke Pandemonium at their performances. Then there were only problems with their record label, the 2008 all dissolved. And then succeeded Neil's band Biffy Clyro with the album Puzzle mid-2007 a great success, so that he was once clamped there. In spring 2009, then the album on a new label and this time also singles were released. Shortly before the album release was released the second single Rubber Lover, who brought it into the UK charts at # 12. The album was a chart success this time. Quite different from the first album, this time it is the hedonistic and decadent lifestyle of the Dukes and musically which is expressed in ten melodic Electronic-/Dancepop-Stücken. The well-known producer and remixer Rich Costey mixed from the album.
