Maroun Lahham

Archbishop Maroun Elias Nimeh Lahham (Arabic مارون لحام, DMG marun Lahham; born July 20, 1948 in Irbid, Jordan ) is auxiliary bishop in the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem and Patriarchal Vicar for Jordan.

Life

The Catholic Palestinians Maroun Lahham studied philosophy and Catholic theology at the Latin Seminary of Beit Jala. He received on 24 June 1972, the priesthood in Jerusalem by Giacomo Giuseppe Beltritti, the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem. He was vicar in Misdar, a district of Amman (1972 /75 1979/81 ), fuheis, Jordan (1975 /76) and a pastor in Madaba, Jordan (1981 /88). From 1976 to 1979, Maroun Lahham Fidei donum priest in Dubai. There, he handled together with Giovanni Bernardo Gremoli OFM Cap, the Apostolic Vicar of Arabia, the different linguistic Christian communities.

After doctoral studies in pastoral theology and catechesis from 1988 to 1992 at the Pontifical Lateran University in Rome, he was with the work on adult catechesis to Dr. theol. doctorate. From 1992 to 1994 he was Director General of the schools of the Latin Patriarchate in 1994 and was rector of the Latin Seminary in Beit Jala. In addition, he taught pastoral theology at the Seminary of Beit Jala and in Cremisan, the seminary of the Salesians of Don Bosco in Palestine in Bethlehem, and the seminar of the Custody of the Holy Land in Jerusalem, and in 1996 at the University of Bethlehem.

8 September 2005 Pope Benedict XVI appointed him. Bishop of Tunis. The episcopal ordination he received on October 2, 2005 in the parish of Beit Jala by the former Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, Archbishop Michel Sabbah.

Maroun Lahham was on 23 September 2009 by Pope Benedict XVI. appointed a member of the Second Special Assembly of the Synod of Bishops for Africa ( 4 to 25 October 2009). On May 22, 2010, the Diocese of Tunis was elevated to an archdiocese, with Maroun Lahham as its first archbishop.

On January 19, 2012 Pope Benedict XVI appointed him. Titular Archbishop of Medaba with the personal title of archbishop " ad personam " and appointed him auxiliary bishop in the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem and the Patriarchal Vicar for Jordan.

Lahham speaks Arabic, French, English and Italian. He is a Commander of the Order of Constantine.
