Marty Natalegawa

Raden Mohammad Marty Natalegawa Muliana ( born March 22, 1963 in Bandung ) is an Indonesian diplomat and politician.

Biography

After visiting the Ellesmere College and Concord College in the United Kingdom from 1976 to 1981 he studied at the London School of Economics and Political Science, where he graduated in 1984 with a Bachelor of Science ( B.Sc.). He then took a post-graduate studies at Corpus Christi College, University of Cambridge, which he finished in 1985 with a Master of Philosophy ( M.Phil. ).

On his return he joined the Diplomatic Service in 1986, and was there some time in the department for research and development. During this time, in 1993 his doctorate in philosophy at the Australian National University ( ANU). Between 1994 and 1999 he worked at the Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York. During this time the membership of Indonesia in the UN Security Council fell from 1996 until 1997.

After his return to indonesia, he was appointed Director of the Department for International Organizations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In this case, the line of political representation, he was responsible for several multilateral fora as well as the consultations, which ultimately led to the independence referendum in East Timor in 1999.

2002 he was appointed Chief of Staff of the office of Foreign Minister Hassan Wirajuda. At the same time he was until 2005 Director General for Cooperation with ASEAN in the Foreign Ministry and Foreign Ministry spokesman. During his time as Director General for Cooperation with ASEAN, Indonesia was also temporarily Chairman of this community and initiator of the Bali Concord II in 2003, in which ASEAN stressed that the strength of democracy peace and stability in the region. On 11 November 2005 President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono appointed him ambassador to Great Britain. He was also accredited as Ambassador to Ireland. On 5 September 2007 he was Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York.

President Yudhoyono finally appointed him on 21 October 2009 for the successor to the long-time Foreign Minister Hassan Wirajuda.
