Masally District

Masallı is a rayon in the south of Azerbaijan. The capital of the district is the city Masallı.

Geography

The district has an area of 792 km ². The region is rich in water and in the west foothills find the forested mountains of Talyschgebirges. A large part of the region belongs to Lenkoraner lowlands, the soil is very fertile. There are many mineral springs.

Population

In Rayon lived 2009 196.200 people. These are spread over 31 settlements. The vast majority of the population are Azerbaijanis and represent 78.73 % of the population. Minorities in the rayon are the Talysh with 21.14%, Russians 0.07 % and 0.06 % with other peoples.

Economy

The region is dominated by agriculture. It is grown mainly tea, vegetables, fruits, wine and cotton. There are several dairies, wineries and other food processing industries. In Masalli Istisu there are spas.
