Masami Tanabu

Masami Tanabu (Japanese田 名 部 匡 省, Tanabu Masami, born December 7, 1934 in Hachinohe, Aomori Prefecture) is a former Japanese hockey player, coach, and politician. By 2010 he was the Democratic Party (DPJ ) Member of the Sangiin, the House of Lords, and was from 1991 to 1993 Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries in the cabinet. As a hockey player Tanabu participated twice at the Olympic Winter Games at the Games Sapporo 1972 he coached the national team.

Life

Tanabu graduated in 1957 his business studies at Rikkyo University, after which he initially pursued his career as a hockey player with the team Iwakura (岩 仓 组). For the national team, he participated in 1957 and 1962 World Championships and 1960 in Squaw Valley and 1964 in Innsbruck Olympic Winter Games. After his playing career, he worked as coach of the national team, which he led at three World Championships and the Olympic Winter Games Sapporo in 1972 as head coach.

Tanabus political career began in 1967 in Aomori Prefecture Parliament. During this time he was also coach of the hockey team, the Seibu tetsudō, a forerunner of the Seibu Prince Rabbits. After two terms as a prefecture politicians Tanabu moved into national politics. A first candidacy for the Shūgiin, the lower house, as an independent candidate failed in 1976, before he (LDP ) moved in with the election of 1979 as a candidate of the Liberal Democratic Party into Kokkai. In six consecutive legislative sessions, he served as chairman of the Telecommunications and Transport Committees and 1985 parliamentary secretary ( seimujikan ) in the Ministry of Postal Services.

Prime Minister Kiichi Miyazawa In November 1991 Tanabu appointed Minister of Agriculture. After his re-election in the 1993 election Shūgiin Tanabu left the LDP and gave up his ministerial post in the outgoing cabinet. In 1994 he moved to the Revival Party and participated at the end of the founding of the New Progressive Party ( NFP ). However, he was defeated in 1996 as the candidate of the NFP under the new electoral law now in single constituency Aomori 3 Environment Minister Tadamori Ōshima (LDP ) and lost his mandate.

1998 Tanabu returned to Parliament when he (one seat) was chosen during Sangiin - election as an independent candidate in Aomori Prefecture. In 1999 he participated in the founding of the mushozoku no kai ( " Assembly of Independents " ), he became party leader in 2001. A year later, in 2002, he left the mushozoku no kai and joined the Democratic Party. In the election of 2004, he was re-elected for another six years. In 2005 he took over the chairmanship of the Committee on Land, Infrastructure and Transport, since 2007, he directs the " Research Committee for an aging society with declining birth rates and social cohesion" (少子 高 齢 化·共生 社会 に関する 調査 会長) of Sangiin.

To Sangiin 2010 Election Tanabu did not start and withdrew from politics.

Family

Tanabus daughter Masayo is DPJ MPs in Shūgiin for the proportional representation block Tohoku - the 3rd constituency Aomori they defeated three times Tadamori Ōshima.
