The Matawan Creek is a partially influenced by the tidal stream ( Tidefluss ) on the coast of the Atlantic. It is located in the northeastern area of ​​New Jersey across from Staten Iceland, New York City. At one point of the watercourse, which is just 25 km inland, occurred on July 12, 1916 shark attacks, which the 12 -year-old Lester Stillwell and Watson Stanley Fisher fell victim who tried to salvage Still Wells corpse. A little later another boy was seriously injured by a shark attack.

The reports of these shark attacks as well as the other two, which occurred right on the coast, were to write to the author Peter Benchley the suggestion that the novel Jaws, which was published in 1974. A year later, the film Jaws came to the cinemas. The film by Steven Spielberg is now one of the classic films of action and horror movies.
