Matawan is a small municipality in Monmouth County, New Jersey. According to the data of a census in 2010, the city had 8,810 inhabitants. Local foundation was on 28 June 1895.

History

In July 1916 occurred in the area of Matawan three of shark attacks off the coast of New Jersey ( 1916), the excited then across the nation for attention. Two of the three victims, all were swimming in Matawan Creek, were killed. To date, these include shark attacks to those that have occurred most at home. There is scientific consensus that only bull shark or a great white shark for these attacks come into question.
