Matilda the Musical

Matilda is a musical in two acts, based on the children's novel Matilda by Roald Dahl. The music by Tim Minchin, the Book Dennis Kelly. The choreography developed Peter Darling. The musical was first performed in December 2010 by the Royal Shakespeare Company in Stratford- upon- Avon. Since October 2011, it will be shown at the Cambridge Theatre in London. The production was honored with numerous awards, including seven Laurence Olivier Awards, for which she was entered into the Guinness Book of World Records. Since April 2013, Matilda is presented on Broadway; the production won four Tony Awards.

Action

The five-year Matilda Wormwood is an exceptionally gifted child. Her family neglected, so she spends her time reading and occasional brushing as revenge for the mistreatment. When she gets to school, noticed her class teacher Miss Honey instantly superior intelligence. You want to promote Matilda, by sending them to a higher class, but the cruel headmistress Miss Trunchbull prevents this with reference to the strict school rules. Miss Honey in Matilda's parents looking for support, only to discover that they are not interested in the education of her daughter in the slightest. She then decides to search for a way to help Matilda.

Between the two acts Matilda's father warns the public of the dangers of reading and recommends that in his opinion, much richer educational television.

Matilda, who is insulted by Miss Trunchbull, after she complained about the unfair punishment of another child, suddenly discovers that she has telekinetic abilities, with which they can confuse the headmistress. It carries out these skills later in front of Miss Honey, which she invites then to his home. There Matilda discovers that Miss Honey lives in extremely poor conditions, because they must pass all of their income to a malicious aunt who takes care of Miss Honey, since their parents died. Matilda finds out that it is Miss Trunchbull in this aunt. In a lesson Matilda brings a piece of chalk to write magically a supposed message from Miss Honey's late father on the blackboard, Miss Trunchbull prompting his daughter to return to her rightful inheritance. Miss Trunchbull flees then out of school. The children celebrate their newfound freedom. Finally Matilda Miss Honey is adopted.

Reviews

Matilda received mostly positive reviews. In the Guardian newspaper, the adaptation of the characters and the musical performances were praised. In The Daily Telegraph Matilda was named the best musical production since Billy Elliot. Also Roald Dahl's widow Felicity Dahl wrote positively about the production.
