Matjaševci

Matjaševci (Hungarian Szentmátyás ) is a village and a municipality in Slovenia Kuzma.

Geography

The scattered village has about 250 inhabitants and is situated in the upper valley of the Lukaj brook, in Roganova Graba and on the gentle slopes to the Austrian border. The individual groups of houses on the heights to 380 m take the field names Jaklov Breg and Breg Pelcarjev. The place has on its municipal area large forest areas and occupies the northern part of the municipality of Kuzma. Between Matjaševci and the neighboring Burgenland Tauka formerly was a small border crossing. Today, here tourists and visitors to the three land park Raab, Őrség Goricko can move freely.

History

The village is first mentioned in 1387 as Mathyasfalua, at that time belonging to the basic rule Dobra, today Neuhaus am Klausbach in southern Burgenland. In 1499 the place name Mathyasowcz is documented. In a protocol of the Diocese of Győr for 1698 place names Mattyásocz and Mattyasovcz are held.

In 1890 the village was officially called Szentmátyás and had 340 inhabitants, of whom 321 declared themselves as Slovenes, 18 as a German and as a Hungarian. The place belonged to the district of the county Szentgotthárd iron castle (today Vas county ).

The Treaty of Trianon struck the village to the Kingdom of SHS. For the city is now officially called 1921 Matjašovci following data were recorded in the census on 31 January found: 254 Slovenes, 98 German and 11 Hungary; of these 363 residents known to be 350 Catholic and 13 to the Protestant faith.

In the census of 1931 342 inhabitants were calculated, in 1961 there were 300, and for 1971 the following figures are available: 287 inhabitants, 63 houses, 65 households and 260 villagers who live exclusively on agricultural income.
