Matthaeus Silvaticus

Matthew silvaticus (* 1285 in Salerno, † 1342 ) was an Italian medical writer and botanist, who taught at the medical school of Salerno.

He presented his most famous work completed in 1317, the Opus pandectarum Medicinae or Pandectae Medicinae. It is a 650 -page reference book in Latin on the drug treatment with medicinal herbs ( pharmacopoeia ). Silvatico continued his studies in the Giardino della Minerva under the name in the center of Salerno guided by ancient botanical garden.
