Matthew Rees

Matthew Rees ( born December 9, 1980 in Tonyrefail, Rhondda Cynon Taf, Glamorgan ) is a Welsh rugby union player. He plays as a hooker for the Welsh national team and the Scarlets.

Rees joined the 2004/05 season of the resolved Celtic Warriors to the Scarlets. Previously he had played for the club Merthyr RFC and Pontypridd RFC. His national team debut came in June 2005 against the United States, the first attempt of his international career he appealed against Canada in the following year.

Rees was in the November internationals in 2006 and the Six Nations 2007 the national squad, but did not participate in the following summer tour due to the birth of his first child. At the 2007 World Championships he came to three inserts. With the Six Nations 2008 he celebrated with Wales winning the Grand Slam.

In 2009 he was nominated by Ian McGeechan for the tour of the British and Irish Lions to South Africa. He came to all the games used.
