Matthew Rowley

Matthew Rowley ( born June 4, 1993 Red Deer ) is a Canadian ski jumper.

Career

Rowley, who competes for the Altius Nordic Ski Club, began with eight years with the ski jumping at the national level. His international debut was at the FIS Cup to his native hills, the Whistler Olympic Park Ski Jumps in Whistler in February 2008. Right away with rank 23, he won this first rating points. After he was able to gain points in the second jump, so he reached rank 237 in the FIS Cup Ranking 2007/08. At the Canadian championships in ski jumping 2009 in Whistler, he won bronze in the individual competition. In summer 2009, Rowley missed in Predazzo and Oberwiesenthal the points clearly.

After two years of international competition break Rowley launched in Gerardmer again in the FIS Cup, where he jumped to 17th place. Two days later, he made his debut in Courchevel Ski Jumping Continental Cup. However, after he stayed there without success in two competitions, he moved back in the FIS Cup, where he, however, after two unsuccessful jumping in Szczyrk again lodged an extended break from competition.

In January 2012, Rowley was appointed after two good results in FIS Jumping in Whistler back in the Continental Cup squad. By the end of the season he remained without a single point of success. At the Canadian championships in ski jumping 2012 in Whistler Rowley won two bronze medals from the normal and large hill. In the summer jumping on the Bauhenk in Kranj Rowley reached 30 for the first time as the points in the Continental Cup. Despite these personal best, he went to the Villach Alpine Arena in Villach again in the FIS Cup at the start, before he moved to the ski jumping Grand Prix in August. When team jumping in on the Tremplins du Praz in Courchevel he reached with the team ranked 13th after he was a few days later to qualify for the individual competition at the Rothaus ski jump in Hinterzarten, he reached on the same jump with the team in fourth position only just behind the podium ranks. In individual competition Rowley jumped to 29th place. With the gained two points he was at the end on the 82nd place in the Grand Prix Appreciation of the season in 2012.

On November 23, 2012, he started to qualify for the jump in the ski jumping World Cup at the Lysgårds ski jump in Lillehammer. However, he could not qualify as 55 and only started as part of the team together with Alexandra Pretorius, Taylor Henrich and MacKenzie Boyd - Clowes in the mixed team event, where they could only reach the last square with rank 13. After Rowley in Kuusamo failed to qualify, he moved back to the Continental.

In February 2013 Rowley succeeded in Iron Mountain after a long time a points success. It remained his only success until end of season. In the end he was ranked 183 overall. For a short time later held the Canadian championships in ski jumping in 2013 he won for a fifth of the normal hill silver medal on the large hill.

2014 Rowley took part in the Winter Olympics in Sochi. On the normal hill, he took the 41st place in qualifying and failed to reach the main round for a place. On the large hill he reached the 38th place in qualifying and thus qualified for the main round. Here he was disqualified after his first jump of incorrect clothing by the jury.
