Matthew Stewart, 2nd Earl of Lennox

Matthew Stewart (* 1470, † September 9, 1513 in Flodden Field) was a Scottish nobleman from the Stewart family and 2nd Earl of Lennox.

Matthew was a son of John Stewart, 1st Earl of Lennox, and his wife Margaret Montgomerie. He succeeded his father as 2nd Earl of Lennox in 1494 and fell in the Battle of Flodden Field.

The Earl was married twice. In his first marriage with Margaret Lyle, daughter of Robert Lyle, Lord Lyle. From this marriage a daughter emerged. His second wife was Elizabeth († 1531), daughter of James Hamilton, 1st Lord Hamilton and his wife, the Scottish Princess Mary. The marriage with the granddaughter King James II moved his son closer to the Scottish throne. By Elizabeth he had the following children:
