Earl of Lennox

The Mormaer of Lennox or Earl of Lennox was the ruler of the long time existing Mormaer or Earldom of Lennox in the Kingdom of Scotland. As the first Mormaer usually Ailin is I ( also Alpin, Alun or Alwin ) considered, even if the number of Mormaers indicates former name. The last Mormaer from the original family was Isabella, the Murdoch Stewart, Duke of Albany married. She died 1458th

After the extinction of the Lennox- line the title of the Earl of Lennox in the Peerage of Scotland to John Stewart, Lord Darnley was awarded. The then several more times created title was elevated in 1581 to the Duke of Lennox.
