Matthias Berninger

Matthias Berninger ( born January 31, 1971 in Kassel ) is a former German politician ( Alliance 90/The Greens ). He was from 2001 to 2005 Parliamentary State Secretary to the Federal Minister for Consumer Protection, Food and Agriculture. Since his retirement from politics in 2007, he worked as a lobbyist for the American food and confectionery company Mars Incorporated.

Schools and Universities

After graduation in 1990 at the Goethe -Gymnasium in Kassel Berninger began studying chemistry and political science at the University of Kassel, which he with his first state examination for teachers in high schools finished in 1994.

Political career

Since 1990 he is a member of Alliance 90/The Greens. From 1993 to 1997 he was a member of the council of Ahnatal and 1993-1994 also in the council of the district of Kassel. From 2003 to 2007 Berninger was spokesman for the Green Party state executive of Hesse.

After the parliamentary election in 1994 Berninger was at the age of 23 years as hitherto youngest member Member of the German Bundestag. Here he was from 1997 to 2001 higher education policy spokesperson for the Alliance 90/The Greens parliamentary group. Berninger is always drawn on a state list of Hesse in the German Bundestag. His candidature for the direct mandate in the Bundestag constituency Kassel, however, remained unsuccessful.

On 23 January 2001 Berninger was appointed Parliamentary Secretary to the Federal Minister for Consumer Protection, Food and Agriculture in led by Chancellor Gerhard Schröder government. At 29 he was the youngest ever appointed Parliamentary Secretary of State.

After the parliamentary elections in 2005, he resigned on 22 November 2005 from the Office of the Parliamentary Secretary. On 27 September 2005, he ran for the post of parliamentary manager, but lost Volker Beck in the first round with 17 votes to 34. Berninger was 2005-2007 economic policy spokesman for the Alliance 90/The Greens parliamentary group. His political career ended Berninger in February 2007 by renounced his mandate. Berninger was considered a realist, and as a pupil of Joschka Fischer. He was a member of the so-called Pizza Connection, a discussion group between some young members of the CDU and Alliance 90/The Greens, who was considered a pioneer black - green coalitions. Change in the private sector

2007 Berninger moved to Brussels as a lobbyist for American food and confectionery company Mars Incorporated as " Director of Corporate Health and Nutrition " to improve its image in Europe.
