Matthias Höfs

Matthias Hoefs (* 1965 in Lübeck ) is a German trumpet player and high school teacher in Hamburg.

Life

His first trumpet teacher was the Lübeck solo trumpeter Herbert Schmidt- Kärner. From 1982, he studied trumpet with Prof. Peter Kallensee at the Academy of Music and Theatre in Hamburg and completed his concert exam with distinction. He then moved to Karajan Academy of Berlin, to operate at Conradin Groth further studies.

Already as a student he was a member of various renowned youth orchestras, including the Young German Philharmonic Orchestra and the Youth Orchestra of the European Community.

From 1984 until his appointment as a professor at the University of Music and Theatre in Hamburg in 2000 Höfs was principal trumpet of the Philharmonic State Orchestra Hamburg.

Since 1985 he is a member of the brass ensemble German Brass, he also works for instance with the Linos Ensemble, the German Wind Soloists, Ensemble Villa Musica and the German Chamber Philharmonic Bremen.

Awards

1983 awarded him the Hanseatic city of Lübeck, the Culture Prize in 1988, he received the Edward Soering Prize of the German Music Foundation and in 1989 a scholarship from the German Music Council and the Mozart Society. When the music colleges in 1987 and 1990 at the International Music Competition in Markneukirchen competition first prize he was awarded respectively.
