Mauricio Rosencof

Mauricio Rosencof (* June 30, 1933 in Florida) is a contemporary writer and playwright from Uruguay, especially in his works dedicated to social and political issues. For his membership in the guerrilla movement Tupamaros he was imprisoned from 1972 to 1985.

Life

Mauricio Rosencofs was born in 1933 in the Uruguayan town of Florida, the son of Polish- Jewish immigrants. The origin of his parents influenced his later political stance and his interest in social and political issues. Apart from his professional work as a journalist, he wrote stage works that have been performed mainly in independent theaters. In the 1960s, he was one of the founders and later to the management level of the Tupamaros guerrilla movement, for which he was imprisoned from 1972 to 1985. After his discharge, he worked again as a writer.

Work

Among the works by Mauricio Rosencof that have appeared partly in German, English, French, Dutch and Turkish translation or have been performed in Latin America and Europe, in addition to short stories, poetry and plays include screenplays for cinema and television films. Characteristic of his work is the denunciation of social injustice.
