Mauro Sarmiento

Mauro Sarmiento ( born April 10, 1983 in Casoria ) is an Italian Taekwondoin. It starts in the weight category up to 80 kilograms.

Sarmiento denied his first international title fights at the Junior World Cup in 1998 in Istanbul and the European Junior Championship in 1999 in Nicosia, where he reached the quarter-finals respectively. In 2002, he finally took part in Samsun at the European Championships in the adult area. The breakthrough in the international forefront succeeded Sarmiento in 2007. During the World Cup in Beijing, he was eliminated in the quarter -finals, with a third place finish at the qualifying tournament in Manchester, he also secured the participation in his first Olympic Games in Beijing. The Olympic competition was very successful for Sarmiento. After three victories, he only lost in the final Hadi Saei Bonehkohal and celebrated the silver medal his athletic biggest success so far. At the European Championships in Riga, he also won the bronze medal. Between 2009 and 2012, Sarmiento was able to achieve in two World Cups and European Championships quarter-final, but where he always retired.

Sarmiento won in July 2011, the International Olympic qualification tournament in Baku in the weight class up to 80 kg the decisive battle for third place against Nicolás García and qualified for his second Olympic Games 2012 in London.
