Mavis Bank is a country town in the south of Jamaica. The city is located in the County of Surrey in the Parish of Saint Andrew. In 2013, Mavis Bank had a population of 1,765 people.

Geography

Mavis Bank is located in the Blue Mountains. The village lies at an altitude 550-850 meters above sea level and is one of the highest settlements on the island. Mavis Bank is located at the source of Yallahs River, which flows near the eponymous town Yallahs into the Atlantic. The source flux is additionally supplied within a short distance of a small stream. The nearest town is the slightly higher lying Hagley Gap in the west. To the east lies Gordon Town, behind which the suburbs of Kingston begin. The place is on average 350 meters above sea level. Between Gordon Town and Mavis Bank are several farms and houses.

History and Economics

The city of the surrounding coffee plantations, which carry its name from the name of a historic Scottish home. The estate is farmed for several generations of the Munn family. It is the main employer in the region. In the plantations of the Jamaican Blue Mountain Coffee is the main product.

Churches

In Mavis Bank is a Seventh- day Adventist Church, which is the largest community in the village. In addition, there are many members of the Bobo Ashanti, a faith of Rastafari live.
