Max Britzelmayr

Max Britzelmayr ( born January 7, 1839 in Augsburg, † December 6, 1909 ) was a German teacher, Lichenologe and mycologist. His botanical and mycological author abbreviation is " Britzelm. ".

Life and work

The son of a teacher studied at the Teachers' Training College in Lauingen and graduated in 1859 with the departure, in 1861, with the teacher employment examination. In 1865, he received a teaching job in St. Georg in Augsburg and in 1873, county school superintendent. In 1899 he retired for health reasons.

In addition to his professional Britzelmayr explored the lichen flora around Augsburg and Southern Bavaria and published Exsikkatenwerke of lichens. Above all, he was also known by his contributions to the Hymenomycetes southern Bavaria.

Britzelmayr, who was a good draftsman, added his descriptions of most panels in, the drawings are partly executed sketchy, partly they were printed in color. He introduced not only the external appearance of the fungi represent but also drew the spores of the respective species.

In his work, often also the localities are designated, for example, of a species which he collected with his Sunday rides, which he undertook to Mushroom time in the Allgäu Alps.

The Pilzherbar of Britzelmayr was revised by Johann Andreas Stangl and Bresinsky. Watercolors and pencil drawings, including feature analysis on the published work on Britzelmayr Bavarian Hymenomycetes are in the herbarium of the Botanical Institute of the University of Munich.

Britzelmayr has also published a book on " dark and incomprehensible German names in natural history ."
