Max Kämper
Max Kamper ( born December 16, 1879 in Jiiterbog, † November 10, 1916 at Sailly- Saillisel of the Somme ) was a German engineer and cavers.
Life
His father was the Prussian Lieutenant General Hugo Kamper. Max Kamper fell in the final phase of the Battle of the Somme as a first lieutenant of the Reserve Field Artillery Regiment 239 between Mesnil and Malancourt (Somme ). He is buried in the military cemetery near Arras Cambrai.
Work
His surveying and mapping in the cave system in the Mammoth Cave, Kentucky in 1908 were the first reliable measurements with instruments. They formed for a long time the basis for the further development of the caves. He is therefore among American cavers known there than in Germany.
