Max-Peter Ratzel

Max-Peter Ratzel ( born December 3, 1949 in Dillingen / Saar) is a former director of European police agency Europol.

Life

After graduation in 1968, he studied mathematics and physics at the University of Saarbrücken. After joining in 1977 in the police service in the Federal Criminal Police Office in Wiesbaden was Ratzel student at the Federal University of Public Administration and completed his training for the upscale detective service.

After his ascension to the higher education service to the former Police Staff College (now German Police University ) in Münster- Hiltrup he held various uses within the Federal Criminal Office working, including Chief of Staff. Last, in the period from 2000 to 2005, he was Head of Department and General Organized Crime.

On April 16, 2005 Ratzel was appointed Director of Europol. On 15 April 2009 ended his term in office. His successor in this position is the British officer Rob Wainwright.
