Max Romih

Max Romih ( May 22nd, 1893 in Pinguente, today Buzet in Croatia, † April 24, 1979 as Massimiliano Romi ) was an Italian chess player Slavonian origin.

Romih changed either between receiving Italian citizenship in 1918 and 1927, or after the chess tournament at San Remo in 1930, changed its name to Massimiliano Romi. It is unclear whether the problems to the Italians with the pronunciation of the name Romih or the burgeoning fascism in Italy and the consequent condemnation of foreign names had moved him.

Romih or Romi took in 1924 and 1936 participated in two unofficial and 1927, 1931 and 1935 at three official Chess Olympiads, in which he scored a total of 31.5 points from 83 games. For participation in the Italian Chess Championship 1921-1970 he scored three times in the second and twice third.

More chess success was the victory in a round robin tournament with six participants in Scarborough in 1925, third place in Hyéren 1926 and second place in a round-robin tournament with twelve participants in Reggio Emilia in 1947.

Romih lost at the chess tournament at San Remo 1930 often fragmentary reprinted match against Géza Maroczy after he left out a winning itself.
