Max Thurian

Max Thurian ( born August 16, 1921 in Perly, † August 15, 1996 in Geneva) was a Swiss theologian.

The son of a customs official studied at the Theological Faculty of the Autonomous University of Geneva, where he became the Baccalauréat en théologie 1945. In 1946 he was ordained by the Church of national protest ante de Genève.

Max Thurian was one of the first seven brothers of the Taizé Community and was regarded as the most important theologian of the ecumenical community. Together with Frère Roger ( Brother Roger ) he was Council observer at the Second Vatican Council. Thurian cooperated with the Lima Declaration of 1982. Later Thurian converted to Catholicism and was ordained a priest in 1987 in Naples. From 1992 he was a member of the Pontifical International Theological Commission.
