Max Wosniak

Max Wozniak (born 22 September 1926 in Cologne ) is a Polish- American Jewish football coach and football goalkeeper. In 1973 he was briefly coach the U.S. national team and won as manager of Maccabee SC (Los Angeles ) the FA Cup in the USA.

Early life

Wozniak was born as the son of Polish -born Jewish parents in Cologne and grew up to Grade 7 there on. In 1935, he started at the age of nine - founded 1933 - SC Hakoah Cologne to play soccer. The family was deported to Poland. After the German invasion of Poland, it was occupied by German troops in the area, after about six weeks changed the occupying power under the Hitler -Stalin pact with the USSR. During World War II he lived in the Russian Magnitogorsk, first to 1942 as a student until 1946 as a laborer in the armaments industry. Then he returned to Poland, where he worked as a bookkeeper for a coal mine among others.

Goalkeeper

After his return to Poland he began to play football, first at Żydowski club Sportowy, whose team consisted entirely of refugees and concentration camp survivors. In 1956 he migrated to Israel, where he played for Hapoel Kfar Saba. In 1959 he was elected to the national team of Israel -wide HaPoel Association.

Coach

1960/1961 was trained to coach Wozniak in Germany; He successfully participated in the 7th course of the Academy of the DFB in Cologne for the football coach in part. First working as a trainer in Germany, he went back to as coach of Hapoel Herzliya in Israel before emigrating to the USA in 1965. In the U.S., Dan Tana Wozniak in 1967 committed as a trainer for his new football franchise - the first professional football team of LA - Los Angeles Toros in the National Professional Soccer League. He came there because of big bad luck with injuries for a final professional goalkeepers use. After the end of the Toros in LA in 1968, he remained as a trainer in LA, including the team of UCLA and the Hollywood stars, from 1972 the Maccabee SC, which he led in 1973 to the U.S. Cup victory, which he gained reputation in U.S. soccer so that he was appointed in 1973 after the failed qualification for the 1974 World Cup to the U.S. national team coach for a tour of Europe. Honors

He was inducted into the Southern California Jewish Sports Hall of Fame in 1993.
