History of Maya

The Maja (Russian Мая; well Майя / Maija ) is a 1053 km long, right or eastern tributary of the Aldan in the Far Eastern Federal District (Russia, Asia). It runs through the Khabarovsk Territory and the Republic of Sakha ( Yakutia).

The river arises in the northern part of the Judoma Maja highlands from the short headwaters Left Maja ( Maja Lewaja, with around 30 km of the longer one) and rights Maja ( Maja Prawaja ). It flows first in a south-westerly direction mainly the west of the Dschugdschurgebirges preferred highlands and bends below Nelkan to the north west. Later she runs from Aim more to the north, crossing the border to Sakha ( Yakutia). Finally, the Maja opens in Ust- Maya in the Aldan, the largest tributary of the Lena.

The catchment area of ​​171,000 km ² includes Maja. The frozen from late October to May River is about 500 km long navigable from its mouth upstream. One of his biggest inflows is the Judoma.
