Mayo Thompson

Mayo Thompson ( born February 26, 1944 in Houston, Texas ) is an American musician and visual artist.

In 1966 he founded, together with Frederick Barthelme and Steve Cunningham, the avant-garde band Red Krayola. In the early 1970s, he lived in New York City, where he worked as a studio assistant for Robert Rauschenberg. In 1970 he released his only solo album Corky's Debt To His Father at the Texas Revolution label. In 2008 it was reissued by Drag City. Disillusioned by the American art scene, he moved to London and joined the art group Art & Language. On his initiative, was published in 1976 a joint album by The Red Krayola with Art & Language under the name Corrected slogans. In the 1980s he was a member of the band Pere Ubu. In 1983 he collaborated with the musicians Dieter Moebius and Conny Plank. In the 1980s, the collaboration with Albert Oehlen began. From 1998 to 2008 he was a professor at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena.
