Mazerolles, Pyrénées-Atlantiques

Mazerolles ( Gascon in the local dialect Béarnais Maseròlas ) is a French community with 1032 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Pyrénées- Atlantiques in the Aquitaine region.

Geography

The municipality lies on the River Mazerolles Luy de Béarn, about 20 kilometers north of Pau, prefecture of the department of Pyrénées- Atlantiques. In addition to the main settlement to include the hamlet Mazerolles Manaut, Matibet, Mounat, Péguilhet and Poey. The neighboring municipalities are Larreule in the north, Moma and Aubin to the east, Viellenave - d'Arthez in the south, Cescau in the southwest, Boumourt in the west and Uzan in the northwest.

History

1385 Mazerolles was a part of the Bailliage of Pau. The village was subordinated to the Abbey of Larreule.

Distinctive buildings

The Bastide is dated to the 13th century. Some cottages from the 18th and 19th Century are now officially recognized as historic monuments. The church of Saint -Martin dates from the 19th century. A war memorial to the fallen in the First World War is also classified as a monument historique.
