Médéric Collignon

Médéric Collignon ( born July 6, 1970 in Villers -Semeuse ) is a French jazz musician (pocket cornet, bugle, trumpet, various other instruments such as keyboards) and composer. He also makes use of various partially innovative vocal techniques, also supported electronically. His music is inspired by a variety of sources ( such as radio, hard rock, salsa, a wide variety of jazz styles, Olivier Messiaen, Edgar Varèse ).

Life and work

Collignon was born in the Ardennes and studied from the age of seven trumpet. Among other things, he had a classical education at the Conservatory of Charleville- Mézières, but which he left in 1989 to make completely different music.

From about 1996 he was in Paris, where he played for, among others, the Orchestre National de Jazz, led by Paolo Damiani and then Claude Barthélémy. He played in several formations in part in dance and theater projects (L' instrument á pression by David Lescot with actor Jacques Bonnaffé ). With trombonist Sébastien Llado he played in a duo machination.

He worked with a private quartet Jus de Bocse ( with Philippe Gleizes, drums, the German pianist Frank Woeste, Frédéric Chiffoleau, bass), with whom he recorded two albums with music by Miles Davis ( Porgy and Bess and Shangri -La - Tunkashi, which is dedicated to the fusion phase of Davis). With his ensemble Septic he realized at the 2008 Marciac Jazz Festival by Ennio Morricone a program. As a sideman, he also grew, with the Andy Emler Megaoctet ( several albums from 2004 to 2009 ) as well as with Wanja Slavin on Quintet with Wanja Slavin, Karsten Hochapfel, Ronny pearl barley, Robert Landfermann and Christian Lillinger and Louis Sclavis (Napoli 's Walls, ECM 2003 ).

Prizes and awards

In 2008 he received together with the saxophonist Géraldine Laurent the Prix Django Reinhardt and in 2009, Chevalier des Arts et Lettres. In 2007 he won with his quartet Jus de Bocse in the category newcomer of the year and 2010 as a French artist of the year at Les Victoires du Jazz.
