Mehdi Mahdavikia

Mehdi Mahdavikia ( born July 24, 1977 in Tehran ) is a retired Iranian football player.

Career

Association

Mahdavikia played in his youth for the Iranian Bank Melli Club Tehran. In 1995 he was honored as Player of Bank Melli Iran with the Golden Boot. His breakthrough came with his move to Iranian top club Persepolis Tehran in 1995, with whom he celebrated three championships and where he was Iranian national football team. In January 1999 - after the successful 1998 World Cup for him - he moved to VfL Bochum. Only half a year later went to the winger, who both as a classic right-wing and the right of midfield feels, after the descent of the Bochum in the Bundesliga for Hamburger SV. Due to its unforgettable wing runs and numerous assists, he became a crowd favorite. From the 2005/06 season he was used mostly as a right defender in the back four. After eight seasons at Hamburger SV Mahdavikia changed in June 2007 free transfer to Eintracht Frankfurt. January 25, 2010 announced Eintracht Frankfurt that Mehdi Mahdavikia changes with immediate effect to the Iranian capital Tehran Club Azin Steel. In summer 2011, he joined the Iranian Pro League promoted Damash Gilan, where he did not feel, however, particularly well. That's why he moved to half a year to his former club Persepolis Tehran, for whom he played until 14 March 2013, and then ended his career.

National

Mahdavikia played over 100 times for the Iranian national football team. In August 2006, Mahdavikia was appointed as the new captain of the Iranian national team and so became the successor of Ali Daei.

The emergence of green wristbands in an international match against South Korea in Seoul after the Iranian presidential election in Iran was regarded as sensational siding with the opposition.
