Meister Hartmann

Master Hartmann is a German carver and sculptor who worked in Ulm and one of the earliest representatives of the Ulm school was. Its origin is not been established and its further survival data are unknown. The origin of his work is dated around 1420 and make it so that first works of art from the early days ulmischer sculpture dar. His works are distinguished from the other sculptors of the first Ulmer Münsterbauhütte. 1428 he was admitted into the Ulmer civil rights. Wortmann suggested, therefore, that he has emerged from the hut Association of Ulm Münsterbauhütte and a hearty own workshop has established.

Works

  • 1420: Madonna ( stone ), originally posted today on the right things pillar for the central pillar of the western entrance portal to the Minster, the original is in the Neidhart chapel of the Cathedral.
  • 1420: Maria with the child (from wood, colored focus) in Orsenhausen. The Madonna is placed a naked baby Jesus in her arms, that little flab shows.
  • 1420: Schutzmantelmadonna ( oak ) in Ummendorf ( in Biberach )
  • 1419-1430: Six Elector figures (sandstone ) to the south-facing windows of Ulm's town hall
  • 1420-1421 For 19 arranged on the porch arches figures of Ulm Minster receives master Hartmann payments. Master Hartmann is thus ( according to Reinhard Wortmann, p 33) of the first creators of architectural sculptures on Cathedral associated with a name.

Classification

Master Hartmann represented in the Ulmer art the soft style. A short time later, Hans Multscher has broken with this style of the early 15th century and taken its own development.
