Mel Stuart

Mel Stuart ( born September 2, 1928 in New York City; † August 9, 2012 in Beverly Hills, California ) was an American film director and film producer.

Career

After graduating from New York University Stuart began in 1954 as an assistant cutter at a company in the advertising industry. Since 1959, Stuart worked for David L. Wolper in his new film production company as a producer and director of several documentaries and as a director of the films So travel and we love ( If It 's Tuesday, This Must Be Belgium, 1969), Charlie and the Chocolate Factory ( Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, 1971) and fire trap ( The Triangle Factory fire Scandal, 1979). After the takeover of the Wolper Organization by Warner Brothers in 1977, Stuart created as a freelance producer and director of other movies like Running on the Sun: The Badwater 135 ( 2000). Overall, he was involved in during his career at over 180 films.
