Mellerud

Mellerud a place in the historical province of Dalsland in southern Sweden, about 45 kilometers north of Vänersborg is located on the west side of Lake Vänern. Mellerud is the capital of the homonymous municipality and is situated on the highway and railway line Gothenburg - Kil.

History

The opening of the railway lines from Gothenburg to Kil and of Sunnanå after Kornsjö and on to Oslo in 1879 Mellerud became a railway junction. 1908 got Mellerud with a population of about 600 city rights as Köpings ( market town ).
