Dalsland
Dalsland is a historical province ( landskap Swedish ) in Sweden. Administratively Dalsland is divided among the provinces Västra Götaland County and Värmland County.
Geography
Dalsland is located in West Sweden, between Bohuslän, Norway and the largest lake in Sweden, Vänern. Due to the varied and very diverse nature Dalsland is called " miniature Sweden " according to a statement by Prince Eugene.
The landscape is unique, with its rocks, lakes, rivers, canals and locks. There is even a " Fell ", Kroppefjäll, even if the elevations rise not significantly high. Between the mountains and the lake Vänern is the level Dalboslätten. The largest north-south extent of the landscape is 99 km, and the largest east - west extension of 59 km.
History
From the prehistoric eras about 5000 archaeological finds are known. After Gustav I Vasa in the 16th century had divided the country into provinces ( län), Dalsland lost its administrative significance. The same was true from the beginning of the 20th century for the five Harden, was divided into the Dalsland.
