Mengjiang

Mengjiang (Chinese蒙疆, Pinyin Mengjiang, W.-G. Meng -chiang ) was a Japanese puppet state in northern China. It was founded on 18 February 1936 at the eastern Inner Mongolia, mainly from the provinces of Chahar and Suiyuan. The autonomy of the country was purely theoretical, since the actual exercise of political power in the hands of the Japanese occupiers remained. The head of state among Japan's grace was the Mongolian Prince Demchugdongrub. The capital was Kalgan ( Zhangjiakou ).

From 1941 Mengjiang was formally an autonomous territory under the Nanjing government. With the end of World War II, the state ceased to exist.
