Menkare

Menkare, also Men -ka -Ra, is the throne name of an ancient Egyptian King (Pharaoh) of the 8th Dynasty ( First Intermediate Period ).

Rule

The sources of evidence to Menkare are very sparse. The King List in the Seti I Temple of Abydos (No. 41) names him as the second king of Dynasty 8. More evidence is contemporary cylinder seals. One of these cylinder seals also names his successor at the same time, what Peter Kaplony interprets as an indication of a joint reign ( Koregenz ), whereas Thomas Schneider considers this unlikely.
