Merlyn Rees

Merlyn Rees ( born December 18, 1920 in Cilfynydd in Pontypridd, South Wales; † 5 January 2006), later Merlyn Merlyn -Rees, Baron Merlyn -Rees, PC, was from 1963 to 1992 for the Labour Party Member of Parliament.

Life

Rees attended Goldsmiths College, London School of Economics and the Institute of Education and the University of London.

He was from 1949 to 1960 taught at his old school in Harrow where she taught economics and history. Rees was from March 1974 to September 1976 Secretary of State for Northern Ireland. From September 10 1976 to May 4, 1979 Rees was a British Home Secretary. He was appointed a life peer as Baron Merlyn -Rees, of Morley and South Leeds in the County of West Yorkshire and of Cilfynydd in the County of Mid Glamorgan in 1992.

In his book, Northern Ireland: a personal perspective, he wrote about his views on Northern Ireland.

He was president of the Video Standards Council and Chancellor of the University of Glamorgan.

He died in 2006 after several strokes at the age of 85 years.
